Maritime Museum

Maritime Museum

The Museum is constructed after 'Flor De La Mar', the Portuguese ship that sand off the coast of Melaka on its way to Portugal. With its hull laden with invaluable treasures seized from Malacca, the ship was doomed from existence had it not for the efforts to revive its symbolic significance to Melaka's heritage.

At the museum, visitors can get a closer look at Melaka from the famed Malay Sultanate of the 14th century to the Portuguese era, the Dutch era and the British era. There are exhibits of foreign ships that had once called at the port of Melaka during the height of its maritime hegemony.

The Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum

The next place that I think quite interesting is The Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum. For your information, Baba and Nyonya are Chinese of noble descendants that have adopted much of the Malay culture into theirs. They are also known as ‘Straits-born Chinese’ or ‘Peranakans’. Visitor who still don’t know about this culture now can view their heritage at the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum (a private museum) run by the Babas and Nyonyas of Melaka.

The Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum located at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, or better known as the Millionaire’s Row, this heritage was a residence built during the Dutch occupancy and bought by the Peranakans in Melaka. Once ago, it was once the family home of the Baba Chan’s family known as Rumah Abu. The design of these houses clearly shows the mixture of culture between the east and the west.

The house was built in 1896, the Baba-Nyonya Heritage Museum presents the way of life of the "Peranakans" in Malacca at the end of the 19th century.

Visitors can see the beauty and uniqueness of the Baba-Nyonya traditional costume, antique furniture and wood-work art. The western influence can also be seen clearly from the antique furniture made in Italy, Britain and Dutch. Western influence did not end here as there are many more items in this museum, from Victorian-era chandelier to floor tiles, which is all has its own story to tell. Interesting right??

Stadhuys

Stadhuys in Malacca

The Stadhuys which means the municipal town hall was built by Dutch on the ruins of a Portuguese fort during the 1650's after having taken over from the Portuguese in 1641. It was built in 4 stories on a terrace of St. Paul's hill. It had been Governor' residence until as early as 18th century. It also function as the Dutch Administrative Center until 1824. The Stadhuys continue to be the State Governing Center until the end of 1979. The original colour of this building was WHITE. It was changed to red during 1820's and then known as the 'The Red Building'untill today. The Dutch ruled Malacca from 1641 to 1795. In 1982, the Stadhuys was converted into a history museum also known as state museum. Visitors can have the experience to see the strange components and antiques found during various renovation to the Stadhuys. As for me, it is an interesting and suitable place those who love to take photo because it will give you a big satisfaction with it's beautiful building and environment.

Istana Melaka

For this entry, I'm gonna talk about Istana Melaka. This wooden replica of the Melaka Sultanate's Palace is situated at the foot of St.Paul's Hill. The architectural design of the palace is based on the description in the Malay Annals or 'Sejarah Melayu' and is the only one of its kind in Malaysia.  The museum, also known as the Istana (Sultanate Palace), is a replica of Sultan Mansur Shah's palace, the famous Sultan who ruled Melaka from 1456 to 1477.

The replica of the palace was built in 1984 and it became the Cultural Museum. The Cultural Museum was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 17th July 1986. The building is made of hardwood while the roof is made of 'belian' wood. An interesting feature of the building is that no nails were used in the construction of the building, only wooden pegs.

Currently, the museum houses about 1,350 items in the form of artifacts  prints, photographs and drawings which represent the history and cultural heritage of the Malay Sultanate of Melaka and the various communities, which came to settle in Melaka during that period.

The three-storie building is divided into eight chambers and three galleries including chambers of the Royal band, weaponry, decorative arts, emissaries and gifts, a recreation hall, an audience hall and an Islamic hall.

The galleries depict the famous clash between the legendary warriors Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat, traditional costumes and the royal bedchamber. Exhibits include prints and photographs of the Melaka Sultanate, a model of the Sultan Mansur Shah Palace, Malay weapons, Malay traditional wedding dress, jewelleries and brass ware.

" A Famosa "

Assalamualaikum everyone.. Well, in this entry I will focus on Malacca as me myself attracted on Malacca because for me, there's a lot of interesting places in there.
As for your information, Malacca is the most historical place in Malaysia as this is the birth place for all Malaysian. At the beginning, before the arrival of the first Sultan, Malacca was a fishing village who Malays are the local citizen in there. One of the most historical places in Malacca is ''A Famosa". It was built in 1511 once Portuguese fleet arrived under the command of Afonso de Albuquerque.
Years ago during the Portuguese invasion, A Famosa was built as a Portuguese fortress. But now, it is as a attraction place that must to be visited in Malacca because it will give the view to the visitors although there's only a small gate house, the only remaining part of the fortress still standing.
As for me, it is an interesting place to be visited because at least we can know part of the history in order to know our own country well.

In other entry, I will give other interesting places to be visited in Malacca. Got to go...:)
